Loss

Sometimes I take my loved-ones for granted. I need to tell 'em more often I love 'em -- in words and in actions. We just don't know what may be ahead for any of us. On Sunday a wonderful friend I've known since high school received word that his missionary son had died in Argentina while trying to save a kid from drowning. Both boys were electrocuted. What an incredible loss for their families and communities. What a sobering reminder that life is fragile.

I held a Jewel in my fingers --
And went to sleep --
The day was warm, and winds were prosy --
I said "`Twill keep" --

I woke -- and chid my honest fingers,
The Gem was gone --
And now, an Amethyst remembrance
Is all I own --
